ASID Student Design Competition
The Society holds an annual Student Design Competition for Student Members in any year of study, and it is typically announced in the summer and due in December or very early January. Past competitions have included an art gallery, a camp activity center, and a spa for multiple sclerosis patients, and many Educators incorporate the project into their curriculum, killing two birds with one stone. Go here to see past winners and to find out the latest information available about the upcoming competition.
Earth-Minded Award for Tomorrow
ASID and Hospitality Design magazine have come together to offer the Earth-Minded Awards (EMAs), which celebrates projects and products within the hospitality industry that exemplify good design through their commitment to the future of our environment. The Student category is appropriately named “The Earth-Minded Award for Tomorrow.” Go here to find out more.
Sustainable Suite Design Competition
ASID, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and The Hospitality Industry Network (NEWH) are sponsoring the Sustainable Suite Design Competition to help drive green design practices within the hotel industry. This competition provides a platform for student and professional teams from around the world to present their approach to green hotel room interior design. The winning design will be built as a model guest room to be presented as an educational display for the design industry, hotel owners and brands, and corporate travel executives. Additionally the winning team and design will be profiled in Hospitality Design, ASID ICON, and the NEWH Magazine. Go here to find out more.
ACCESS Design Challenge
In every issue of ACCESS, the Student Member Newsletter, a new Design Challenge is announced. These smaller design competitions take little time investment, but can provide a great return as selected submissions will be posted on www.asid.org and will appear in the subsequent issue of ACCESS.
Kravet & Traditional Home Student Design Competition
Kravet, Industry Partner ASID, is proud to partner with Traditional Home for Kravet Your Room, a digital design contest for interior design students. Beginning on January 15, 2010, the contest will be promoted through Traditional Home’s website, Kravet’s website, and social media such as Facebook and Twitter. As always, students are welcome to visit the showrooms for inspiration and additional information about our products. However, the design process will be totally digital. Students will use virtual design tools to style a room with Kravet furniture, fabrics, carpets and accessories. The emphasis of the contest will be on the kravetsmart line of furniture and fabrics. The winning room will appear in Traditional Home magazine and will be promoted online. The winning design student will receive a kravetsmart chair upholstered with the kravetsmart fabric of his or her choice, valued at $2,400, and a $100 American Express gift card. Five design students will receive Honorable Mention awards. Their designs will appear on Traditional Home’s website, and they will receive $100 American Express gift cards.
